Design and Implementation of a Smart System to Control Aromatic Herb Dehydration Process
2020
Drying is a process aimed at reducing the water content in plant materials below a limit where the activity of microbes and decomposing enzymes deteriorate the quality of medicinal and aromatic plants. Today, the interest of consumers towards medicinal and aromatic herbs has registered a growing trend. This study aims at designing a low-cost real-time monitoring and control system for the drying process of aromatic herbs and evaluating drying efficacy on the microbial community associated with the studied herbs. Hot-air drying tests of sage and laurel leaves were carried out in a dryer desiccator cabinet at 40 °
Sistema de monitorización en continuo a tiempo real de la concentración de oxígeno durante el batido para la producción de aceite de oliva virgen
2012
During the mechanical extraction process of Virgin Olive Oil (VOO) some important physical phenomena and enzymatic transformations occur which influence the quality of the final product. The control of process parameters is crucial to ensure the quality of VOO, therefore process monitoring and control is a fundamental requirement in the modern VOO processing industry. The present work proposes an innovative Real-Time Monitoring System (RTMS) aimed at continuously measuring the oxygen concentration during the malaxation process in order to establish a correlation with the quality of the final product obtained. This monitoring system is based on an oxygen concentration sensor directly connect…
Electrochemical detection of chloride ions using Ag-based electrodes obtained from compact disc
2022
Abstract In this work electrochemical sensors fabricated from compact disc material (waste or new) are used to quantify chloride ions in different types of samples. All three electrodes, working, counter, and pseudo-reference electrodes, were fabricated from the compact disc and directly used. Different parameters were studied in order to demonstrate the possibility of using this waste material for efficient and low-cost electrochemical sensors. Chloride sensing performance was evaluated using linear scan voltammetry as the detection technique. A sensitivity of 0.174 mA mM−1 cm−2 with a limit of detection of 20 μM and excellent selectivity against many interferents was observed. Selectivity…
A Low-cost, Real-time Monitoring System for PV Plants based on ATmega 328P-PU Microcontroller
2015
This paper presents a real-time monitoring system for PV power plants based on a microcontroller Atmega328P-PU. The proposed system, whose performances can be relatively close to those achieved with commercial monitoring systems, is simple, low-cost and open source technology-based. In addition, a user interface, capable to communicate through a wireless network by using a standard communication protocol IEEE 802.15.1, is here presented. From the experimental tests described and discussed in this paper it is demonstrated that the proposed monitoring system provides, with adequate accuracy, all the information about the operating status of the PV plant, even during fault conditions.
Electrical distribution substation remote diagnosis and control system
2014
This paper presents the conception, design, set up and realization of a prototype system for telemanagement of a MV/LV substation. The prototype has been developed according to the current standards. This system allows to monitor the status of the MV/LV substation box, of the medium voltage equipment, of the transformer and of the low voltage equipment. In particular, the system acts when some specified events occur. The prototype has been realized by using a DAQ; the software that implement the telemanagement system has been developed in LabVIEW environment. The system allows a remote monitoring of the quantities of interest that is carried out using the TeamViewer software able to establi…
A System to Control the Atmosphere in the Headspace of the Malaxation Machine to Improve the Fatty Acid Composition of Extra Virgin Olive Oils
2015
In recent years, oxygen content regulation during malaxation has been noted as a process parameter. As concluded by many studies, the presence of oxygen during malaxation has a key role in for improving the quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) in terms of volatile and phenolic components. There are, however, very few studies of the influence of oxygen in the malaxation machine headspace on the fatty acid composition of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of oxygen in the malaxation machine headspace on Nocellara del Belice EVOO fatty acids. During of the malaxation process, the atmosphere inside the malaxation machine was modified by blowing…
